Cellist Olivia J. P. Harris is an artist dedicated to the performance, instruction, and growth of new music. In addition to being an active soloist, she is a founding member of Mazumal, a voice and cello duo committed to promoting inclusivity in contemporary and experimental music. Through her work with Mazumal, her past ensemble forty/sixty, and her solo engagements, she has worked to use music as a tool to address social and political topics, appearing on series such as Music for Missions in Western Massachusetts. She has performed in concert halls in the North America and Europe from Cleveland’s Severance Hall to the Konzerthaus Berlin. Olivia is enthusiastic about collaborating across genres and mediums and has played alongside dancers, visual artists, actors, and singer-songwriters.
Olivia began her studies in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. She is a graduate of Cleveland Institute of Music Prep, holds a Bachelor in Music Performance from The Hartt School and a Professional Performer’s Certificate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her principal instructors include Rhonda Rider, Astrid Schween, Jeffrey Zeigler, Mihai Tetel, Regina Mushabac, and Martha Baldwin.
